Peak Season: June – October
This is the best time to dive in Zanzibar. The southeast trade winds (Kusi) bring cold, nutrient-rich currents that attract pelagic species. Visibility reaches 25–30 meters at Mnemba Atoll, Leven Bank, and Tumbatu Island.
Whale sharks migrate through the Mnemba Channel from July to September — the highlight of the Zanzibar dive season. August often brings humpback whale sightings offshore. Spinner and bottlenose dolphins are present year-round but most active during this period.

Second Season: December – February

December is peak tourism — holidays fill up fast. February is the sweet spot: excellent conditions with fewer crowds than December/January.
Rainy Season: March – May
The long rains (Masika) run from March to May. Visibility drops to 10–18 meters and some days are lost to heavy rain.
