Zanzibar's dive sites are spread across three main areas reachable by speedboat from our Kendwa dive center: Mnemba Atoll, Tumbatu Island, and the open-ocean seamounts further offshore. Below is a closer look at our regular sites, followed by our current weekly boat rotation.

Mnemba Atoll

Zanzibar's most celebrated dive area, a protected marine reserve northeast of the island.

  • Kichwani — sloping coral wall, 2–30m, suitable for every level. Leaf fish, nudibranchs, resident green turtles.
  • Wattabomi — gentle sandy slope known for its "Moray Eel City" and relaxed drift dives.
  • Aquarium — dense, fish-packed reef with mild current, a favorite second dive.
  • Big Wall — vertical drop from 18 to 35m+ on the atoll's open-ocean side, for advanced divers.

Tumbatu Island

Quieter than Mnemba, with some of northern Zanzibar's healthiest coral gardens.

  • Shetani, Popobawa, Mwana — hard and soft coral gardens at relaxed depths, excellent for macro photography: seahorses, octopus, scorpionfish, nudibranchs.

Leven Bank & Open-Ocean Sites

An open-ocean seamount sloping from 12 to 55m, for experienced divers only — strong currents, eagle rays, giant groupers, tuna, barracuda. Nearby Hunga Reef offers dramatic coral formations and swim-throughs in the 10–22m range, suitable for Open Water divers and above.

Our Weekly Dive Boat Schedule

We run two speedboat dives most days — a morning double-tank trip and an afternoon single dive. Sites rotate through the week and depend on weather and sea conditions:
