What Do You Learn in the Rescue Diver Course?

Unlike previous courses, the focus isn't on your own diving technique — it's on your ability to recognize emergencies in others and respond correctly. You'll learn:

• Self-rescue and stress management underwater

• Recovering an unconscious diver, underwater and on the surface

Course Requirements

• PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent certification)
• Valid EFR (Emergency First Response) certification, no older than 24 months
• Minimum age 15 (Junior Rescue Diver available from age 12)

Cost and Duration

The PADI Rescue Diver course at Scuba World Divers starts from €247 online (10% discount already applied) and typically takes 3 days. The course includes theory sessions, practice scenarios in confined water, and hands-on rescue exercises in open water.

What Does a Typical Course Day Look Like?

The course combines theoretical knowledge with realistic emergency scenarios simulated by our instructors — from a panicking diver at the surface to recovering someone from greater depth. These exercises take place in a controlled, safe environment but feel realistic enough that you're genuinely prepared for real situations.

Day 1 typically covers self-rescue, recognizing diver stress, and surface management. Days 2 and 3 focus on deeper rescue scenarios, missing diver searches, and full emergency management procedures.

Is the Rescue Diver Course Worth It Without Divemaster Ambitions?

Is the Rescue Diver course hard?

How long is EFR certification valid?
24 months. After that, it needs to be renewed to remain valid for the Rescue course. We offer EFR renewal at all our locations.

What comes after Rescue Diver?
The next step is usually the PADI Divemaster course — the first professional certification level and a stepping stone to becoming a PADI Instructor.

Can I take the Rescue course back-to-back with Advanced Open Water?
Yes — many divers complete Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver in the same trip. We can arrange both courses consecutively at any of our locations.
