Abu Hashish Lagoon is the quintessential starting point for any diving adventure in Makadi Bay. Its name translates to "Father of Grass," hinting at the patches of seagrass that make this site an important marine nursery. This large, sheltered lagoon is a wonderfully calm and protected environment, making it our primary site for check dives, beginner courses, and anyone looking for a completely stress-free plunge into the Red Sea's beauty.

The Dive Plan and Experience
Diving in Abu Hashish Lagoon is all about relaxation and building confidence. The boat moors inside the lagoon where the water is almost always perfectly still, allowing for an easy and safe entry. The dive plan involves a simple and pleasant exploration of the expansive sandy bottom and the fringing reef wall that forms the lagoon's border.

This predictable, stress-free environment makes it the perfect place to complete the first underwater experiences of the PADI Open Water Diver course. It's also our location of choice for the PADI ReActivate™ program, as it allows divers who have been out of the water for a while to comfortably re-adjust their weighting and skills. You'll spend your time mastering buoyancy over the sand and searching for the numerous blue-spotted stingrays that rest here.
